I spend about $65 a month on snacks for my 3 kids. I say healthyish because I haven’t done the research myself I just go by the advertisement and I am sure it is healthier than what I was eating at their age. Here are my tips to save money:
- Amazon for some items buying in bulk and getting it delivered to your doorstep can save you money (and time) To save a little extra you can use the subscribe and save option. This is great for snacks you know stay a constant in the house
- Big bags over snack pack I do not buy in individual snack size bags because that is also not worth the money to me. I buy one bag and take a handful throw it into a ziploc and call it a day. It is time consuming but I save a good chunk of money and it helps limit snacking.
- Stock up when it’s on sale When the good snacks go on sale I double up. It saves me a trip and monies
Here is my list of my kids’ favorite snacks:
They are organic, tasty and convenient for a quick grab and go. If we are rushing out the house (usually on weekends ) and do not have time to make breakfast I give my kids one of these and a banana to go. Also perfect for my athlete to have a quick bite before and after practice. I pack a bar in my littles lunches. It is so much cheaper to order on Amazon then picking up in store so I have an amazon subscription to send these every 2 weeks. A 6 pack at the store is $4-$5 a box or if you are lucky and catch them on sale $3 but amazon saves me time and money because they are delivered straight to my door.
My 13 year old loves Pirate’s Booty but it is pricey for my budget so these are my alternative. I grab about a handful and put them into ziplocs so it is also a grab and go and he does not binge snack. 1 bag will usually last me about 2 weeks!
All my kids love pretzels. My 13 year old will eat them with cubed monterey pepper jack cheese. Just like the popcorn I put about a handful in a ziploc and these will last a week since all my kids eat them.
I also have these on my subscribe and save BUT I always check when I am the grocery store to see if they are on sale and I stock up. I am able to postpone my subscribe and save on Amazon which is super convenient! I mainly use these in my littles bento lunch boxes for school lunch so just about half a handful of little bunnies in a compartment gets them through lunch! My 13 year old is not a fan because he grew up on Teddy Grahams, Cheez it’s and Goldfish and there is an obvious difference in taste. These are all my littles know so they have nothing to compare them to. Each box will last me about a month and they only get to choose 1 flavor a day.
Feeding your kids “healthyish” snacks doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive. I hope these tips and tricks help you out!
