The only time I drive from the Burbs to Austin in traffic is to visit SoCO. The parking sucks but dinner, dessert and exercise is well worth the drive and the 45 min scavenger hunt to find parking. SoCo is always fun for adults but it is also family friendly. Here is my family itinerary on a Friday night.
1st on the list is dinner and what is better than pizza? HOMESLICE PIZZA! Instead of waiting for a seat in that ridiculous line go to the to go line grab your family a slice, walk across the street and enjoy people watching while you eat at Hey Cupcake trailer.
After dinner head down to The Toms Store/ Coffee Shop. They have porch swings, patio chairs around a fire pit. I like to grab myself an iced coffee and let the boys hang out and enjoy the cool chairs and the porch swing.
There are a ton of cool shops I like to go to when I do not have the boys but when we are done at Toms I head back to the car and stop at Big Top Candy Shop.
They have soooooooo much candy, ice cream and they jerk their own sodas. They have all the candy you grew up as a kid, choco bandaides, candy cigarettes, pretty much all you can think of! I let them choose 2 candies and let my 10 year old create his own soda. Next destination is Churro Austin for dessert!
The trailer is on Riverside about a 1 ½ miles away.
Next we like to take a walk on the boardwalk to walk off all the calories we just loaded up on.
At night it is beautiful to walk along the lake! We make a roundtrip and it is a good 51/2 miles and you can enjoy watching and exploring the Austin night life! By the time we got back to the car the boys we tired and fell asleep on the drive home. We got to sleep in the next morning.
